This Instructor-led Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Course teaches healthcare professionals the critical skills of high-quality CPR, to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

The American Heart Association’s BLS training is cutting-edge, not only in terms of its evidence-based content, but in its use of a well-tested methodology that can dramatically improve both the learning and retention of lifesaving skills. It is also widely accepted by major employers.

COVID-19 BLS Virtual Classroom:

Our virtual BLS Course provides a safe, simple and convenient alternative to classroom-based training. At any time that meets your schedule, simply go online to access the virtual instruction we co-developed with the Healthcare Learning Alliance and with the approval of the AHA. When that’s done, print the certificate you’ll need for your in-person, 60-minute skills check. After a successful skills check, you’ll receive an official 2-year American Heart Association certification card.

How it works:

 

  1. Schedule your skills check session – Choose a date, time and location from the list below.
  2. Once your skills check is scheduled, we’ll send you a link to the virtual course and exam on the Healthcare Learning Alliance site.
  3. After you’ve passed your exam, you’ll be awarded a certificate.  Print out your certificate and bring it with you to your skills check!

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. It uses the American Heart Association’s proven Practice-While-Watching technique, which allows Instructors to observe students, provide feedback and guide students’ acquisition of skills.

Register for your skills session above, then you will be sent the link to the online course and exam.

The course covers:
  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway
  • Upon successful completion of written test and hands on skills, students receive a BLS Provider card, valid for two years
